Jeez, I'm glad I live in Australia.

If I win $58,435,275 on the Powerball lotto, then the Lottery commission pays me $58,435,275.

No tax, no 20 year plan.

Just give me the damn money.

Gotta love that - :)

Of course the Tax Dept will eventually get their hands on part of it somehow once it's in my bank account, unless I hire a team of really good accountants.

American government, at all levels, is run on GREED. And they have never met a tax they wouldn't embrace and impose.

I have to laugh.

It seems many states have had anti-gambling laws on the books for centuries. That was to protect the citizens plus it was part of their moral code. Now that they are in dire need of tax revenue, all those laws are being tossed out on the their ear and the states are ushering in full-blown casinos.

So which is it???? Is gambling good or evil? It was evil until the revenue numbers were dangled like a carrot on a stick. Now is no longer evil, but a god-send.

A recent news article showed the PA had more tax revenue from their newly installed casinos than all of NV. Of course, the state of PA taxes the casinos at a rate of 55%. Can a punter get a fair game in that state with that sort of tax bite plus the normal overhead a casino has? What sort of comps, if any, can a punter expect vs casino counterparts in other states?

There is a also a big debate in MA as to their proposed casinos. They will be the most politically correct casinos (mandated by law) in the world. Plus they not only will have a huge tax rate but at the outset the casinos had to fork over $500 million for a license...that is now down to $300 million due to the economy. Plus the casino builders have to "invest" almost a like amount in their construction. Guess who is going to pay for that via crappy tale games and tight slots?
